Minimalism as we understand it

Minimalism is not about having nothing.

Minimalism means different things to different people. We all have our own views on what minimalism is.

Minimalism is really about getting rid of unnecessary things in your life in order to simplify it. But on the other hand, some people think that this is equivalent to having hardly any material possessions. There are stories of people taking it to the extreme and living with next to nothing when they actually have a lot of money in their bank account. In the photo, however, what you see is a nearly empty apartment. Conversely, others use the term as a sales gimmick to make you spend more money, almost like a trendy thing. Some people are fascinated by it, become obsessed, and regard the idea of minimalism as a kind of showing off. We feel like this ends up defeating the whole point of minimalism.

Here, we believe that a middle ground is more appropriate. This will be more balanced and practical, as neither extreme is good. So in doing that, we think that living a minimalist lifestyle is really about decluttering your life and making it more efficient, simpler, cleaner, and more effortless. This means that maybe you used to need three things to do a certain task, but now you can do it with just one or two. For extra items that are no longer needed, maybe you can store them for later use, or give them away, or even use them to do something new and different, thus reaching a higher level of living by reusing old things. As part of the simplification process, we also don’t like throwing things away, because one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure, so give it away or donate it if you can; it helps others and is good for the planet.

For us, minimalism is not a difficult abstraction to grasp. It’s just a synonym for making life easier. We believe anyone can benefit from it.
